History: The history of Newagen Seaside Inn dates back to 1816. Visitors flocked to the region to take in the coastline views and natural beauty of the area around what was known as the Preble House. The original structure was destroyed in a fire in 1943. Many thought the fire was intentional as a signal during World War II to German U-boats. The inn was quickly rebuilt within months and has welcomed guests ever since.

Amenities: Rooms include bottled water upon arrival, a Keurig coffee maker, a canvas tote bag, and Wi-Fi. There is a coffee and tea station that includes homemade cookies every day. The pub is open daily for lunch and dinner. In the summer, there’s live music on Thursdays and Sundays and lobster bakes on Tuesdays.

The inn hosts elopements and small weddings. Packages include the ceremony, photography, flowers, and a night at the inn. Contact the inn’s wedding coordinators for more information.

Recreational Activities: There’s plenty to keep everyone busy on-site at the inn, including tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts. There are two rowboats available to borrow and take out to sea. Take a dip in the saltwater pool or enjoy a string of candlepin bowling, a table tennis match, or a game of billiards. Enjoy yoga by the water two times a week. There are several nature trails perfect for hiking and birdwatching.

The Southport and Boothbay Harbor region has several beautiful parks to enjoy, such as Reid State Park, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Barrett’s Park, and the Boothbay Region Land Trust Trails. See a famous Maine lighthouse in person at Pemaquid Point, or go for a swim at Popham Beach.

There are also several museums in the area, including Boothbay Railway Village, the Maine Maritime Museum, Owl’s Head Transportation Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, and the Maine Lighthouse Museum.
