SUMMARY: The Boothbay Railway Village Museum focuses on mid-19th through mid-20th century artifacts, technology, and period structures that were used in Maine. MORE INFORMATION: History: Train connoisseur George McEvoy purchased the Freeport Station at an auction in 1964. The historic train depot was built in 1912 and was a working station that many New England passengers traveled through daily. The Freeport Station was moved to Boothbay and became the centerpiece of the Railway Museum. The Boothbay Railway Village was established in 1965 surrounding the station.
Collections and Highlights: The Model Railroad is one of the most cherished displays at the museum. The model is constantly added to and is considered “one of the best model railroads in New England”. The Antique Automobile portion of the museum holds a collection of 60 antique automobiles. Automobile models range from 1902 - 1962. The collection also holds vintage gas pumps, original service manuals, and oil cans. The buildings within the village are also a highlight of the collection. The historical buildings are filled with artifacts dating from the mid-1800s to 1900s. Buildings include shops, a school, a gas station and homes.
