The lake is the deepest in the state, with depths of up to 316 feet. With frigid temperatures this year in Maine, the lake froze over the earliest since 2019.
Sebago Lake offers much as a recreational destination, especially for fishermen, and in winter, it's ice fishermen.
The Sebago Lake Rotary Club has merged this recreational passion with the mission to remove invasive species of Northern Pike and Togue (Lake Trout) as a management tool partnered with the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
The derby provides a midwinter opportunity to get outdoors while supporting a charitable organization, the Sebago Lake Rotary Club, with its efforts to support local nonprofits and charitable organizations.
The derby not only includes Sebago Lake but also 20+ other lakes/ponds in Cumberland County that qualify for fishing, (check the MIF&W website.)
