MORE INFORMATION: History: The Bush Compound was formerly called Point Vesuvius. When it was Point Vesuvius, the property was home to Damon Park, a public park. The Bush family purchased the land and built the compound that sits at the location today.
The Bush family, including David Davis Walker and George Herbert Walker, purchased the property and built estates in 1902. David Davis Walker’s estate was removed after falling into disrepair. However, the George Herbert Walker estate stayed in the family and has been sold within the family for generations. In 1977, George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, purchased the mansion.
Season/Hours of Operation: The estate is a private residence and not open to the public. However, it can be viewed from a distance by boat or by Parson’s Way.
