History: The first Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival was held in 1979. It was established by Pati Crooker Mulligan of Brunswick to bring bluegrass music to coastal Maine. Over the years, more than 300 bands have graced the stage with their music. Some were internationally renowned and others were up-and-coming. The Festival ran for 30 years and was recognized for its family-friendly atmosphere and high-quality performances.
In 2008 the festival went on hiatus and returned in 2011 as the Bluegrass Special. For 2016 in place of the festival a "Celebration of Life" was held to honor Pati and her legacy. In 2017, Michael and Jennifer Mulligan, her son, and his wife took the reins and continued the legacy. The Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival did not take place in 2020 but returned in 2021. People come from all over the world to attend this event every year.
Month Held: The Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival is held on Labor Day Weekend, Thursday through Sunday rain or shine.
Attractions: The location is very attractive and has been called the "Prettiest and Cleanest Park in New England” with a beautiful beach and 85 camping sites. The Main Stage Music begins somewhere between 9 am and 11 am and depending on the day, goes into the night. Vendors of crafts and merchandise are onsite as well as food trucks offering tacos, seafood, coffee, ice cream and so much more. Workshops are offered throughout the weekend and are included in the price of admission. Family activities include a playground, sandy beach, bingo, Rec Hall, giant Jenga, face painting, and nightly family movies.
