History: The Springfield Fair was established in 1851. In that time, the fair was only absent for three years, two during World War II and 2020 because of COVID. Early in 2023, the fairground came under new ownership and the owners are a young-engaged couple who love the fair and what it represents. They have moved the date of the fair from Labor Day weekend to mid-June making it the first fair of the season and brought back the active midway.
Month Held: The Springfield Fair is held in mid-June from Thursday to Sunday.
Attractions: The Demolition Derby is held in front of the Grandstand. 2W and 4W drive trucks take part in the sanctioned truck pull. Additionally the Jeep and Squarebody Rally and Antique Car Show entertain. Welcome to the Open Rodeo Under the Lights and the Antique tractor pulls or if you prefer to watch the younger crowd the Kids pedal tractor pull. Friday night enjoy dancing to a local DJ.
Eel racing is loads of laughs as kids try to carry two eels down the length of a wet tarp from one bucket to another. Kids Day includes lots of kids competitions including bubblegum blowing, Oreo stacking, corn pile, and 5 free bikes given away. Sheep busting and the pig scramble are major attractions.
Visit the Museums and historic exhibits, watch the sheep shearing and spinning demo, and try your hand at games of chance in the Smokey's Greater Show Midway. Carnival rides and loads of the fair food you expect. Live entertainment daily.
Lots of competitions of all kinds are held and attendees are held to a high standard of good sportsmanship, no booing is allowed. Be kind and have fun. The Ironwoman Triathlon is a visitor favorite and includes the Ladies’ Mop Chuck, Ladies’ Skillet Throw, Ladies' Toilet Seat Toss, and Ladies’ Seed Spitting Contest.
The Exhibition Halls are filled with the best baking, crafting, woodworking, fruits, and vegetables that this area of the Maine Highlands has to offer. The Open Pie Contest and the Whoopie Pie Contest bring out the best bakers in the area.
Admission:
- Children under 26 inches are free
- Entry on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday is $20, Saturday is $25
- A daily ride bracelet is received at entry to the fair for unlimited riding all day.
