SUMMARY: South Turner Mountain is located in Baxter State Park. The trail is very steep, with many hikers considering it grueling to get to the summit. However, once you reach the summit, the views are stunning in all directions. Make it a peaceful day hike or combine the hike with a night of camping. Dogs are not allowed in Baxter State Park.

Season/Hours of Operation: Open year-round. Be aware of the parking lot open/close times, which can vary by lot and season.
Parking: Look for parking at the Roaring Brook Campground. There is a fee for daily parking, and gates are open from 6 AM to 10 PM.
Trails:
- South Turner Mountain via Sandy Stream Pond Trail: This trail is about 3.7 miles out and back, starting at Roaring Brook Campground. The terrain includes walking planks, boulders, forest, ponds, rocky scrambles, and steep inclines. Though shorter than some of the other Baxter State Park trails, this trail is very challenging. There is a rocky cone at the summit where hikers can see from every direction.
