History: The Skowhegan Drive-in Theater opened on June 28, 1954, in the heyday of the drive-in movie era of the 1950s. It was built by Lockwood & Gordon Co. of Boston. The first films shown were "Take Care of My Little Girl" and "The Secret of Convict Lake". It offered the latest in projection equipment and large in-car speakers. It had a kiddie playground, a snack bar, and the adult entrance was 55 cents. In 2013, the theater was updated. Today you turn on the radio in your car. There are no more speakers.
Attractions: A weekend flea market is open from 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in May. Concession is available if you need a snack, a drink, or lunch. The Skowhegan Drive-in Theater is available for rent for large or small events until Halloween.
Tickets: No season passes are available. The price for individual tickets is $10 for adults 12 years and older and $5 for children over two years old. Children under two years old are free. Tickets may be ordered online or purchased for cash at the gate.
Season/Days/Hours of Operation: The theater shows movies on the weekend beginning at dusk. The opening day is usually in early May, depending on the condition of the ground. Snow melt and spring rain are the determining factors.
Food Service: The Skowhegan Drive-in Theater has a concession stand that serves all your favorites. Enjoy popcorn, nachos, candy, cold drinks, fried dough, hotdogs, hamburgers, French fries, ice cream, and more.
