SUMMARY: Rockport Marine Park offers scenic water views of the Rockport harbor, ruins of seven historic limestone kilns, a 100-year-old Vulcan locomotive steam engine, lawn with picnic tables, boat launch, schooner trips, summer concerts as well as the statue of the famous and much loved, Andre the seal. The harbormaster’s office and parking are located on the premises. The kilns, each built out of fieldstone with fired brick interiors, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Andre the Seal (May 16, 1961 – July 19, 1986) was a male harbor seal pup found in Penobscot Bay off the island of Robinson's Rock. He was adopted by Harry Goodridge, the Harbormaster of Rockport, Maine, who raised the pup to become his scuba diving companion, while assuming he would ultimately return to the wild if given the chance. Instead, Andre chose to remain in Rockport with Harry until his death in 1986.
The heart warming story that took place during their 25-year relationship has been well-documented in hundreds of news articles, several books, a 1994 feature film released by Paramount Pictures, and a PBS documentary.
Andre's fame and popularity prompted Jane Wasey to erect a memorial statue in his honor in Rockport, Maine's harbor in 1978.
In 1978, the popular seal was immortalized with a limestone statue sculpted by artist Jane Wasey. The statue overlooks the harbor in the Rockport Marine Park.
