Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway

The Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway travels for 52 miles around the Rangeley Lakes, which include 112 connecting ponds and lakes. The byway begins on Route 4 in Madrid and moves onto Route 17, ending in Mexico, ME. It makes a great day trip or opt for spending a night along the way at a historic inn.

Height of Land provides one of the most stunning views in New England and is a popular attraction. Another stunning place to visit is the 90-foot-tall Angel Falls, which is an easy 1.1-mile hike from Route 17. The Artists Trail provides 15 scenic locations for artists to work their magic and for tourists to connect with artists and their work.

The Appalachians are a leaf peepers paradise in the fall and in the winter, offer snowmobiling, fat tire biking, ice skating, snowshoeing, Nordic, and Alpine skiing. Summer offers lots of hiking and water sports, The Appalachian Trail, and splendid mountain views.

It isn't all about rural and outdoor activities. The villages of Rangeley and Oquossoc provide an opportunity to shop, dine, play golf, take a moose sightseeing tour, or enjoy a seaplane flight over the lakes.
