History: The Presque Isle Historical Society was established in 1963.
Collections and Highlights: The Presque Isle Historical Society has a broad collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents. There is not enough space to showcase all of the collection in one building, so exhibits are set up throughout town at places such as the Turner Memorial Library, Northern Maine Community College, local schools, and the Northern Light AR Gould Hospital. Items that may be found around the various exhibits include a Roosevelt Fish & Game collection, an agricultural display, household items, textiles, portraits, fishing gear, and a one-room schoolhouse exhibit.
Exhibitions, Events & Programs: In addition to the many tours that the Historical Society runs, they also hold community events like a Victorian Christmas, talks, lectures, and festivals.
Tours: The Presque Isle Historical Society offers many tours throughout the year. Themed tours include Haunted Hearse Tours, the Cemetery Tour, the Jim Cullen Tour, Civil War Trails, Haunted Lantern Tours, Fall Foliage, and the Mystery History Tour. Check the website for a list of upcoming tours.
