History: The Penobscot Theatre Company evolved from the Acadia Repertory Theatre, which performed in Bangor for 10 years. In 1983, Penobscot Theatre Company presented its first performance, and in 1997 they acquired the Bangor Opera House, where productions are staged to this day. The opera house is a historic 1920s former vaudeville house built in the Egyptian art deco style. Tours are offered of the famously haunted building.
Tickets: A variety of season passes are available. You can choose between a fixed subscription where you will choose the same day and same seat for every production, or a flex pass where you use your tickets when and where you want. Individual tickets are $38-42. Preview tickets are $32-$36 and discounts are available for military, educators, groups, students, and seniors. Not all shows offer student discounts.
Season/Days/Hours of Operation: The Penobscot Theatre Company is the only year-round regional theater in Northern Maine. Shows are offered from September to May. Shows are offered Wednesday-Sunday with a mix of evening and matinee performances.
Kid Friendly: Penobscot Theatre Company offers vacation camps for 7-15-year-olds.
Food Service: Snacks and drinks are available at the concession.
Rentals: The Penobscot Theatre Company can be rented (weddings, parties) for a full day or half a day. An application form is available on their website.
Parking: Penobscot Theatre Company does not have its own parking. Limited street parking is available as well as several free parking lots within walking distance.
