SUMMARY: The Ocean Path trail is one of the many Acadia National Park trails featuring sweeping ocean views, cliffwalks, natural granite slabs, and stunning landscapes. Visitors especially love viewing sunrises and sunsets, and the lighter crowds than the more well-known Acadia trails. Access the trail from Sand Beach’s upper parking lot, Otter Point, or Thunder Hole. Plan a visit of two to four hours to explore the full 4.4 round-trip trail and nearby Sand Beach or Thunder Hole.

Parking: Parking is available at the Sand Beach lot, Park Loop Road lot, Old Soaker parking lot, or parallel parking along the road.
Ocean Path Trail Highlights: Aside from the scenic trail, there are a few worthwhile stops along the way, including Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs, and Sand Beach. Thunder Hole is a carved inlet that creates a thunderous sound when waves crash into the inlet. Otter Cliffs is a 110-foot-high cliff that’s one of the highest on the United States eastern seaboard. It’s a great spot to view otters in the ocean. Sand Beach is the biggest sandy beach in Acadia, surrounded by cliffs.
