MORE INFORMATION: History: The Nylander Museum was established in 1939 to hold the collection of Olof Nylander. Nylander was a naturalist from Sweden. He came to the United States in 1883 and worked as a field collector for the United States Geological Survey. He researched flora, fauna, geology, and paleontology. The Caribou, Maine government owns and operates the museum.
Collections and Highlights: The collection includes Nylander's original specimens, including fossils, shells, mammal skeletons, arrowheads, and Native American artifacts.
