SUMMARY: Moxie has been a Maine staple since it was first introduced in the mid-1800s. Moxie is even the official Maine soft drink! While it can be found nationwide, it is most popular in the New England area. Moxie can be found throughout New England in retail stores and markets. It’s so popular in New England that there is a Moxie Festival held each year in Lisbon Falls and there is a Moxie Museum in Union.
MORE INFORMATION: History: Moxie was first created in 1876 by Augustin Thompson, who said it had healing powers because of the gentian root used in it. It was believed to help with conditions like insomnia, anxiety, and paralysis. What started as just syrup was turned into a beverage when carbonation was added to the mix.
The brand was bought by Monarch Beverage in 1966 and then sold in 2007 to Cornucopia Beverages. In 2018, Coca-Cola bought Moxie.
Specialties: Moxie’s specialty is its carbonated beverage. The soda comes in two flavors - original and diet.
