- Current Ownership, Maintenance & Preservation: In April 1998, the entire station, including the lighthouse, became the property of the Town of St. George under the Maine Lights Program. The St. George Historical Society operates the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum in the former keeper's house. The lighthouse remains an active Coast Guard aid to navigation.
Visitor & Tour Information: The grounds are public access. The lighthouse is off-limits to the general public. The St. George Historical Society operates the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum in the former keeper's residence. The Museum is open from Memorial Day to the end of October. A drum Fresnel lens used in the Marshall Point Lighthouse is on display at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland.
The lighthouse can also be viewed by boat or plane. Monhegan Boat Line offers a Lighthouse Cruise that passes Marshall Point Lighthouse. Sea Ventures Charters (207-446-5484) offers custom, personalized charters from St. George aboard the 38' diesel-powered Lady Anne. Air tours are also offered by Penobscot Island Air.
Directions: From Highway 1 east of Thomason, take Highway 131 south for 13.6 miles until you reach Port Clyde. Turn left on Drift Inn Road and then right on Marshall Point Road in Port Clyde. Follow Marshall Point Road for one mile until you reach the parking area (free) for the lighthouse.
Lighthouse Trivia: Marshall Point was named for John Marshall, an early settler who owned a homestead on the St. George Peninsula. Marshall Point Light can be seen in the movie "Forrest Gump". The wooden walkway of the lighthouse marked the end of Forrest Gump's cross-country run... “Run, Forrest, Run.”
