SUMMARY: Known for being one of the best run marathons and attracting the most enthusiastic crowds, the Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon is an out and back route that begins and ends in Portland's Back Cove. It travels along the ocean to scenic Yarmouth. Plan your Portland weekend well in advance to enjoy this event. The Maine Marathon is a USATF certified course and Boston Marathon qualifier.
MORE INFORMATION: History: The Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon was founded in 1979. It is run by the Maine Track Club. Maine's largest and most active running club, and is one of the longest running marathons in New England.
Month Held: The Maine Marathon, Half Marathon & Marathon Relay takes place the first Sunday in October in Portland, ME.
Attractions: Food trucks, a beer garden, and live entertainment will be located at the start/finish line.
Admission: It is free to be a spectator. Runners' entrance fees are:
- Marathon relay $140 plus $9.40 sign up fee
- Marathon $80 plus $5.80 sign up fee
- Half Marathon $55 plus $4.30 sign up fee
- Virtual events $30 plus $2.80 sign up are available from the Saturday a week before until Monday a week after the actual event.
- After August 31st, all fees go up by $5.00.
Parking: Limited parking is available near Sullivan Gym on the campus of the University of Southern Maine. The USM parking garage is the main parking location for the event. When it fills up, additional parking is available nearby at the UMaine School of Law, the Back Cove lot, or the AAA lot. Plan to arrive by 7am.
