History: The Maine Historical Society was established in 1822. While the Historical Society has been in existence for some time, the Maine Historical Society Museum did not open until 1993.
Collections and Highlights: The collection includes fine art, historical clothing, memorials, signs, household items, vintage toys, tools, photographs from 1840 to the present day, and hundreds more artifacts. In addition to the physical collection at the museum, the Maine Historical Society has a comprehensive online collection detailing thousands of items and photographs.
Exhibitions, Events & Programs: The museum holds events throughout the year. Some events are online, some are in person and others are for members only.
