History: The Maine Fiber Frolic began in 2000. It has run every year since except for 2020 and 2021 when it was canceled due to the pandemic. It takes place rain or shine and some people even seem to prefer the rain.
Month Held: The Maine Fiber Frolic is held on the first full weekend in June.
Attractions: Since fiber, fiber crafts, and animals that produce fiber are the center of the Maine Fiber Frolic, the attractions offered are related to the fiber arts as well as to small farm producers, preference is given to small farms, Maine products, and producers. It is essential to register in advance for any workshops to allow instructors to make sure that they have the necessary materials for participants. Some of the workshops that have been offered in the past are Folk Art Rug Hooking, Introduction to Modern Tapestry Weaving, Tunisian Crochet in the Round and Colorwork, Combo Spinning, Flick, Pick, Card, and Comb, Natural Dyeing: Starting Out; Continuing On, Introduction to Brioche Knitting, Durable, Easy to Learn Locker-Hooking, Great Antique Wheel Spinning Demo, Fun with Fiber Processing, and Needle Felting.
Demonstrations include Sheep Dog Demos, Mending Socks, Wood Carving Demonstrations, Live entertainment on stage, Knitting techniques, Fleece judging, Bunny barn, Angora fiber judging, Make it with fiber, Skein show, and more. Vendors will be selling their wares on both days.
