History: The Maine Coast Marathon had its inaugural race in 1980 under its former name, Nike Maine Coast Marathon. It was discontinued in 1986 due to concerns expressed by the Secret Service, since the race passed the private home of former president George HW Bush at Walker Point. It was revived in 2013 and has been gaining in popularity every year, attracting more than 1,000 runners.
Month Held:Â The Maine Coast Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K Run takes place early in May on a Saturday and a Sunday.
Attractions: The weekend includes a 5K, a half-marathon, and a marathon. For those who want even more, The Coastline Challenge includes the 5K or the half-marathon on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday. The after party takes place at Wells Harbor Community Park where runners get 2 free beers from Shipyard Brewing as well as refreshments and snacks, including Rococo ice cream. Live music and family games will be provided.
Admission: There is no admission for spectators. Runners pay an entrance fee depending on which category they run in.

Parking: Separate designated parking lots for runners in each race to park and register are offered. A shuttle bus will take runners to their respective start lines. No arrangement is made for spectators to go to the start line. Spectators can take a shuttle from Wells Junior High School to Wells Harbor Community Park.
After the race, shuttle buses will take runners and spectators from Wells Harbor Community Park back to the parking lots at Wells Junior High School. No transportation is provided after the race from the finish to the start line.
