History: The Maine Air Museum was established in 2000. The exact opening date is not known as it started as a collection of artifacts and casually grew over the years.
Collections and Highlights: The collection includes hundreds of photographs, artifacts, and historical narratives. Some highlights include a map of and stories of military crash sites in Maine, the disappearance of The White Bird, displays of Maine-born aviators, and a piece of a balloon that was used to set a world record.
Exhibitions, Events & Programs: The museum holds four aviation-themed STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities for children. The exhibits include Bernoulli’s 3-Ring Circus, Wind Tunnel, Venturi Meter Demonstration, and Bernoulli in Space. The museum sometimes has special displays, such as first-hand stories of aviation adventures and military tactics.
