History: In 1982, the shop owners of Kennebunkport put together the idea of hosting a fun, holiday event for the community. It started as a three-day event with typical Christmas activities like tree lighting, caroling, and food. It has since expanded into a two-week event.
Month Held: Late November to mid-December
Attractions: The Christmas Prelude kicks off with tree lightings across Kennebunkport including at Dock Square, Cape Porpoise, and the Lower Village. There are visits from Santa’s reindeer and Mrs. Claus and many Santa sightings.
Grab your favorite holiday hat and join in the Hat Parade from Dock Square. Festive activities like caroling, storytelling, fireworks, a dog parade, and a street festival take place over the two weeks.
Gingerbread decorating, a holiday photo booth, crafts, S’mores, trolley rides, mansion tours and so much more are offered each year. Be sure to check the Kennebunkport Christmas Prelude website for the full two-week schedule of events.
Admission: It is free to visit Kennebunkport, but some activities may incur a fee.
Parking: Parking is available throughout Kennebunkport at municipal lots, on-street parking, and local hotels. Some lots may charge a fee. Shuttles and trolleys are also available during the festival.
