Waterville, Maine Trails

• Colby College Trails: 7.5 miles of easy to moderate trails include out-and-back and loop trails. Highlights on the system include Runnals Hill with open fields and wooded trails to footpaths on the grounds of the 128-acre Perkins Arboretum. The trails offer plenty of wildflowers and wildlife watching opportunities. Trail surfaces are dirt/forest floor, and grass. Activities include walking, running, mountain biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing,  birdwatching, and geocaching. Dog- and kid-friendly. • Head of Falls: This easy, 1-mile out-and-back trail includes the Kennebec Riverwalk, Two Cent Bridge, and Winslow’s Scott Park. The Riverwalk offers wide walkways, picnic tables and benches, a gazebo amphitheater, gardens, and a children’s play area. The Two-Cent Bridge connects Waterville's Two-Cent Park with a large park and gazebo on the Winslow side. Activities include walking, mountain biking,  fishing, and picnicking. Dog-, kid-, wheelchair-, and stroller-friendly. Parking parking is available.
• North Street Community Trail: This easy, 1/2-mile out-and-back, wooded trail offers scenic views of Messalonskee Stream, a "Story Walk" for kids, and lots of wildflowers and wildlife watching opportunities . A dock is available during the summer months, allowing access to the stream for paddlers. All trail surfaces are paved. Activities include walking, running, road biking, fishing, birdwatching, and geocaching. Dog-, kid-, wheelchair-, and stroller-friendly. A restroom is located on the premises. • Inland Woods & Pine Ridge Trails: This moderate, 8-mile, wooded loop trail traverses the 144-acre Pine Ridge Recreation Area and includes walking paths, old tote roads, and single-track mountain bike runs. Nature lovers will have abundant wildflowers and wildlife watching opportunities. Please note that not all trails have signage as the system is under construction. Trail surfaces are dirt/forest floor, and woodchips. Activities include walking, running, road biking, fishing, birdwatching, and geocaching. Dog- and kid-friendly. Paved parking is available. • Oxbow Trail: This easy, 3/4-mile, wooded loop trail meanders along the shore of Messalonskee Stream, through pine forests and wetlands. Popular among nature lovers, the trail affords visitors a chance to see Maine's native plants, wildflowers, trees as well as birds, amphibians, fish, and wildlife indigenous to the state. Trail surfaces are dirt/forest floor and gravel/crushed stone. Activities include walking, running, fishing, birdwatching, picnicking, and geocaching. Dog- and kid-friendly. • Quarry Road Recreational Trail: This trail system offers 13 miles of easy-to-difficult, wooded, loop trails with views of Messalonskee Stream. During the winter, 2.5 kilometers of trails feature snowmaking and lights with grooming for skate and classic skiing, as well as dedicated trails for snowshoeing and limited downhill skiing with a short rope tow. Trails are used for walking, running, and mountain biking during the warmer months. Trail surfaces are dirt/forest floor, gravel/crushed stone, rock/ledge, grass, and groomed snow. Activities include walking, running, mountain biking, rock climbing (in the quarry), snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fishing, birdwatching, picnicking, and geocaching. Dog- and kid-friendly. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the groomed trails in the winter. A restroom is located on the premises. Dirt parking is available. • Thomas College Trail: This easy, 2.8 mile loop trail system extends throughout the school campus. A 1-mile, 6’ wide, wheelchair-friendly trail with a hardened surface weaves through an area near the baseball and soccer fields. A more extensive network of single- and double-track trails extends through the woods near the football fields, with some offering scenic views of the Kennebec River. Most trail surfaces are dirt/forest floor. Activities include walking, running, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. Dog-, kid-, and wheelchair-friendly. Paved parking is available.
