History: Steamboats were prominent in the Moosehead Lake region in the 1800s. The steamboats would transport mail, livestock, supplies, and even passengers. One of the last steamboats to remain was the Katahdin. The Katahdin was purchased and restored and became part of the Moosehead Marine Museum in 1977.
Collections and Highlights: The museum collection includes a steamer porthole, display cases with nautical treasures, nautical tools, and many vintage photographs.
Exhibitions, Events & Programs: The Katahdin cruises feature entertaining cruises to meet visitors' needs. Cruises range from quick tours of one hour to longer full-day tours. Some tours are for adults (21+) only and others are for all ages. Various themed cruises include the R&B Dance, Head of the Lake, Moosehead Lake Fireworks, Mt. Kineo, Sugar Island, Moose Island, Brews & Blues, and Fly-in.
