This beach is a showstopper in every sense. It's also nothing like a typical beach. First, there are the "Billion Billion" rocks that line the shoreline. Their smooth surfaces tell a tale of powerful ocean churn, creating a surface that is about as ASMR as you can get for the sense of touch.
Then, the color range takes over, providing there's more to the rainbow than ROYGBIV. When the rocks are dry, they are beautiful. When wet, they're stunning (and slippery, so be careful!).
Now, to the sizzling part of this beach. Known as a "Singing Rock Beach," it's more like a hiss or a sizzling sound as the waves lap on the rocks, and the resettling makes a sound you can define by hearing it for yourself. This might be the only beach in the world where you listen more to the rocks than the waves.
Oh, wait—this article is about dogs. So, the Machiasport dog ordinance requires that dogs be controlled by the owner or handler at all times. This means that dogs who follow voice controls can be off-leash. Dogs who might need a little more control can be on a leash.
You must pick up after your dog immediately and carry the waste with you. If you bag and drop or presume you'll come back for it later, you're being irresponsible and risking this liberal dog access policy.
Excessive barking is also a big no-no.
The beach spans half a mile, so there's plenty of room to explore. Leave no trace of your presence, and that means leaving the rocks behind. While SWAT won't show up if you take a rock, imagine if everyone who came here took a rock and how it could impact the ecosystem.
Bring your own drinking water, waste bags, and towels or a blanket to warm up after a swim. The water is going to be cold here, even if it's a hot summer day.
Is Jasper Beach Safe for Dogs?
Know the tide schedule and weather forecast. This beach is best visited at low tide for maximum access. While Jasper Beach is in a cove, it can still get big waves, and those rocks will shift more freely, making each step potentially dangerous.
Dogs might walk with hesitant steps at first because of the smooth rocks, so let them get adjusted before any rough play or running.
There are several access points of marsh water meeting the sea, and those areas will be rich with crabs and other critters that could pique a dog's interest. Keep dogs from eating or playing with seaweed, as it can upset their bellies.

Parking is easy to find at Jasper Beach Road, just a short gravel-covered side street off Port Road. Parking is free and right next to the beach.
What's Near Jasper Beach?
Much of this area is surrounded by private property, but just five miles north, you can visit Fort O'Brien State Historic Site, where dogs are allowed on leashes. It is truly amazing this fort lasted as long as it did, considering how many times the British destroyed it.
