History: The Franciscan Guest House was purchased in 1937 by Lithuanian Friars of St. Casimir Province. The friars came to the United States to flee the Soviet Union's invasion of Lithuania. The friars opened St. Anthony’s High School in the 1950s, which was a school for boys of Lithuanian heritage. The school closed in 1969 and was converted into a hotel and center for meetings. Some of the friars still live at the monastery today.

Recreational Activities: There is a beautiful, scenic walking trail at St. Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery. The trail is almost a mile and a half and is paved for easy walking. There are benches and shrines along the path. Less than a mile from the guest house, there are three beaches to enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and flying kites. The beaches include Gooch’s Beach, Middle Beach, and Mother’s Beach. The Rachel Carson Nature Preserve is a nice spot for walking, photography, and exploring. Kennebunkport is a lovely village for shopping, viewing art galleries, and dining.
