SUMMARY: Fort Knox, Maine's largest historic fort (circa 1844 -1864)s granite structure situated on the western bank of the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine. Although the fort never saw any action and was never fully completed, it is New England's finest unmodified example of military architecture of the Civil and Spanish American Wars period. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory is located on the premises.

Season: Open 9:00 a.m. to sunset daily from May 1st to October 31st unless otherwise posted at the gate. Fee charged. Visitors may continue to enjoy the park during the off season by parking outside the gate and walking in during these same hours. Facilities are closed during the off season.
