SUMMARY: Evans Notch (elevation 1,410 feet) is a mountain pass in Maine's White Mountains, about 1 mile east of the New Hampshire border offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and watershed. The notch is bisected by Maine State Route 113 on its way from Fryeburg on the Saco River in the south to Gilead on the Androscoggin River in the north.
MORE INFORMATION: Hiking Trails near Evans Notch: The notch serves as the starting point for a number of hiking trails. The Royce Trail, Laughing Lion Trail, and East Royce Trail all climb the Royce Mountains to the west, while the Bickford Brook Trail and Spruce Hill Trail lead to Speckled Mountain to the east. The Mud Brook and Caribou Loop trail is another popular hike on the eastern side of State Route 113. Seven other popular trails are located further south off Route 113 in the White Mountains National Forest.
