MORE INFORMATION: History: The Downeast Scenic Railroad runs on the original Maine Shore Line Railroad. The Maine Shore Line Railroad dates back to the late 19th century when it was used as a passenger railroad. The line was used in later years for freight services until 1985. The Maine Department of Transportation bought the defunct railroad and it eventually became part of the Downeast Rail Heritage Preservation Trust. Downeast Scenic Railroad has been operating tourist trains since 2010.
