Davistown Museum

History: The museum was established in 1999 by H.G. “Skip” Brack. Brack opened the Davistown Museum across from the Liberty Tool Company. It is named for the Davistown Plantation, which later became the towns of Montville and Liberty. The museum has collected artwork, tools and historical items through donations.

Collections and Highlights: The art collection holds over 100 pieces of art by Maine and New England artists. The collection is antiquarian and contemporary. The majority of the items were donated to the museum for permanent display. Artwork includes beautiful seascapes, landscapes, portraits, and more. The permanent tool collection features tools that were manufactured in England or other locations overseas, early American foundries, and handmade tools from early American settlements. Some of the hand-forged tools in the collection date back to the 1600s. The museum also features the Ancient Dominions of Maine Native American Artifacts collection. This collection's highlights include an Apache water basket, tool chests, lithics, bronze, and bone. The distinct collections are the Cohasset Hoard, Coffin Stream Assemblage, and the Wapanucket 8 Hoard. The collection also documents the first settlements of the Davistown Plantation, Montville, and Liberty.

Exhibitions, Events & Programs: The museum hosts exhibitions such as the Maine Artists Guild Exhibition, which features local artwork that can be purchased. The Davistown Museum Annual Art Exhibition includes loaned pieces of art that are featured in the gallery.
