Chase Rapids is the most well know section of rapids along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. This set of class I-II rapids continues for approximately eight miles on the other side of Churchill Dam.

Portage service is available, for a small fee, for canoes and/or gear around the most difficult section of Chase Rapids. Service is available from 8 a.m. until noon daily. See the ranger at Churchill Dam to make arrangements for portage service. Canoeists who do not wish to run Chase Rapids or would like their gear shuttled around the rapids should plan accordingly.
