History: Camp Kawanhee first opened in 1920 and has been in continual operation ever since. The original owners were George and Raymond Frank. In the 1960s a group of alums and friends purchased the camp. The camp is now operated by the George & Raymond Frank Foundation. The campers still use the hewn log cabins which are almost 100 years old.
Camp Type: Camp Kawanhee is an overnight camp.
Gender: Camp Kawanhee is a camp for boys.
Ages: Boys aged 7-17 are accepted at camp.
Specialties: This is an outdoor adventure-centered camp. Swimming and lifeguard training is an important part of daily activity. Campers' swimming ability is tested on their first day, and they will be encouraged to get the instruction they require. Sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and waterskiing are also offered. Outdoor field sports are available, including riflery, archery, baseball, basketball, tennis, and soccer. Hiking in the local area is an important part of the camping experience.
Camp Sessions: Camp Kawanhee has four session types.
- Full Season: Kawanhee’s traditional program is a 7-week stay. Due to popular demand, shorter sessions are offered to allow for family vacations and sports participation.
- Tumbledown Session is a 4-week program
- Skookumee Session is a 3-week program
- Trailblazer Session is a 2-week program for first-time campers under 12 years of age.
Cost/Tuition: The tuition for a full session is around $10,000. A spot can be held with a $1,000 deposit. Discounts are available for siblings and for early enrollment and early payment. See the website for details.
