The Lower School focuses on Pre-K through Grade 4. Students enjoy dedicated teachers, a rigorous curriculum that includes languages, and time to socialize and play.
The Middle School is for grades 5 through 8. The middle school curriculum fosters independence, critical thinking, place-based learning, and integrated projects. Middle schoolers can participate in clubs, interscholastic sports, performing arts, and school trips.
The Upper School is for grades 9 through 12. The upper school students have a core curriculum that includes English, History, Math, Science, and World Language. They have the opportunity to engage in performing and visual arts as well. Rigorous Pinnacle Courses challenge students to go beyond textbooks and deep dive into advanced topics. A special advisory program connects each student with an advisor that they meet with twice a week. Class trips, assemblies, over 40 student-run clubs, community days, coffeehouses, and spirit weeks help students form bonds and lasting friendships.
The campus features four grass fields and the Katz Turf Field. There is also an athletic center with a fieldhouse, a classic wooden gym, basketball courts, a dance studio, and a fitness center. Upper school students can participate in baseball, softball, basketball, crew, ice hockey, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, and tennis.
After-school programs and summer camps are available as well.
History: Berwick Academy was established in 1791 by local residents who raised money to form the school. Governor John Hancock signed a charter to found Berwick Academy as a liberal arts and sciences educational institution. The school was originally a public high school.
In 1955, the school became a private entity after a vote by the Board of Trustees. It became a boarding school for the boys and girls attended during the day. In the 1970s, a middle school was added, and the boarding option was discontinued. In 1977, the lower school grades were added.
