Parking: The Beech Mountain parking lot is closest to the summit. Parking is also available at the Echo Lake parking lot and Long Pond Boat Launch.
Beech Mountain Trail Highlights:
- Beech Mountain Trail: This is a short, moderately challenging trail with a fire tower, granite lookout, and forest. At the half-mile mark, hikers will find granite slabs that offer Long Pond and Mansell Mountain views. Many set up here to watch the sunset. Be sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight for the descent after sunset. The fire tower’s first platform is open for hikers to catch views of Somes Sound, Echo Lake, and mountain ranges. Dogs are not allowed on the fire tower, but are allowed on the trail.
- Beech South Ridge Trail: This trail has great views of Echo Lake and Somes Sound. It is approximately 1.4 miles (one-way). Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be leashed.
- Beech West Ridge Trail: This trail features lake views and is moderately challenging at just 1.1 miles (one way). Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be leashed.
- Valley Trail: This trail is great for those looking for lower crowds. It connects to South Ridge and West Ridge. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be leashed.
- The Canada Cliffs Trail: This trail is challenging as it features cliffs. It’s just under 2 miles (round trip). Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be leashed.
