SUMMARY: The Bangor Police Department Museum is located at the Bangor Police Station. Hundreds of items are on display in the museum informing visitors about the history of policing in Maine. Visitors can also see the Duck of Justice, a taxidermized duck found in the dumpster by a Bangor police lieutenant. The duck has become quite a famous item to take pictures with!
MORE INFORMATION: History: The Bangor Police Department was formed in 1889 with a force of 13 policemen. The Bangor Police Museum was created from an ongoing collection of items that the police have kept over the years and community donations.
Collections and Highlights: The collection includes authentic police items from the 1700s to the present day. Highlights include police uniforms, newspaper articles, and a ‘tramp chair' which is a mobile one-person jail cell.
