History: The Acton Fair began in 1846 and for many years it was held two years in Acton and then two years in Georgetown. It wasn't called the Acton Fair, at first it was the Esquesing Fair. From 1889 to 1892 it was the Acton Union Fair and was held for two days during the week. In 1908, it was advertised as Esquesing Fall Fair at Acton. Horses were and still are a big part of the fair. In 1913 the Fair was finally at home in Acton for good and has been since.
Month Held: The Acton Fair is held late in August for four days from Thursday to Sunday.
Attractions: Livestock events include pig calling in the livestock show ring, 4-H showmanship, steer, ox, and horse pulling, pig scramble, and calf scramble, all types of animals are shown and judged from rabbits to oxen.
Demonstrations include things like clipping sheep, spinning or weaving, milking, choosing and caring for a rabbit or a guinea pig.
Contests may include watermelon carving, milking, and frozen tee shirt. Visitors can take part in free laser tag, keg toss, adult farmer Olympics, and an Interdenominational church service. The Grand Parade is a Saturday morning fixture. In addition to the livestock pulls pedal tractor pull and garden tractor pull, truck pull, antique tractor pull, farmer's lawnmower rodeo, and mini rod tractor pull are all spectator favorites.
Exhibits of flowers, handcrafts, fruits, vegetables, and photos are on display in the various exhibition halls. Carnival rides are offered for adults and kids. Food vendors sell all the usual favorites, French fries, fried dough, grilled livers from the Rotary Club, and much more.
The Miss Acton Fair Pageant takes place on Saturday evening. All girls from ages 5-17 can enter. The contest will include talent and evening wear competitions. Girls compete in categories by age: 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17.
Car lovers will enjoy the Cruise'n Car Show. Several baking contests allow adults and youths to show off their skills. Women's skillet throw is on Saturday with categories by age. The women's competition is followed by the younger girl's competition. The Locke Family Entertainment Center offers entertainment for children every day. Music is offered several times daily in the music pavilion.
