SUMMARY: The Acadian Village is one of the biggest historical sites in the state of Maine. It’s home to 17 buildings spread across the settlement. Some of the structures are original buildings that were relocated to the village, while others are replicas. Visitors will find a chapel, houses, a blacksmith, a shoe shop, a barber shop, barns, a railroad station, a country store, and other surprises to explore.
MORE INFORMATION: History: The Acadians were settlers from France who came to Nova Scotia in the 16-17th century. They settled by St. John River and St. David in 1785. The Roy House and the Morneault House are two of the oldest houses in the village. The Roy House was built in the 1790s and was donated to the village by Leone Rossignol. The Morneault House, home to Addis Beaupre, was built in 1857. In the early 1900s, it was a post office and was later relocated from Grand Isle, Maine to the village. The Acadian village was designed by Heritage Vivant on land that was donated by Charles Ayotte. The buildings in the village were moved to their current site in 1975 and the village officially opened shortly after in 1976.
Collections and Highlights: The buildings and architecture at the Acadian Village are the biggest draws for visitors. The Roy House features Acadian architecture with hewed logs, a fieldstone fireplace, straw mattresses, and a sleeping loft. Original furnishings like the 1800s rocking chair, Acadian chairs, and other historical pieces are in the house. The Morneault House features nautical elements in its architecture, such as ship's knees. Visitors will find original furnishings like an armoire, a quilting stand, and a stove. Our Lady of Assumption Chapel is home to one of the oldest bells in Maine. The Blacksmith Shop and Hamlin Schoolhouse have historical artifacts and replica items.

Tours: Tours are available for groups of 10 or more.
