Camden Rockport Pet-Friendly State Parks and Lands
All Maine state parks and public lands welcome dogs (unless otherwise noted), but there are restrictions about state park beaches. Pets are prohibited on beaches from April 1 through September 30. From October 1 through March 31, leashed dogs are welcome. Pets are allowed at campsites, but you might be assigned a less congested spot when you make the reservation.
Coastal Mountains Land Trust
Each region of Maine has a Land Trust organization dedicated to preserving nature from development. In Camden, the Coastal Mountains Land Trust is the organization. Dogs must be on a leash unless otherwise noted, as a few preserves have off-leash opportunities as long as the dog is under voice control. You have more than a *dozen locations to explore between Camden, Rockport, and Lincolnville.

Owl’s Head State Park
Pet lovers should know there’s a heroic dog story hidden in this shoreline sensation. Dogs are allowed in this part until the Coast Guard property begins near the lighthouse. Signs will clearly mark the boundaries. The Owl’s Head Lighthouse is accessible for people only via a steep set of stairs well worth the climb.
Shop the store online or on site to get keepsakes of Spot the Lighthouse Dog, who daringly saved the life of a favorite human in the middle of a blizzard in 1930. Lighthouse grounds visitors will also be able to see Spot’s final resting place. What’s more? Owl’s Head is known as one of the most haunted lighthouses in Maine.

Are Dogs Allowed at Camden, Maine Town Beaches?
Dogs are allowed on Camden beaches after voters approved a referendum in 2007. You might find some outdated information online that states otherwise, but we triple checked. From May 1 through September 30, dog access times are limited to 6:00 pm to 8:00 am. Dogs are not allowed on town beaches from 8:00 am through 6:00 pm during that time period.
Camden’s longest summer nights can have twilight or daylight starting around 4:30 am until close to 10:00 pm, giving plenty of time to play. The rest of the year, dogs are allowed between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm.
Laite Memorial Beach
Laite Memorial Beach is tucked into the southwest corner of Camden Bay, protected from the main road by a steep hill with stairs. Rocks flank both sides of the beach to give a more secluded feel. Most of the beach is covered in coarse sand with some pebbles, rocks, and boulders off to the sides.
Harbor Park
This pet-friendly green space is in the heart of Camden’s High Street District, between the harbor and the Camden Public Library. Festivals and events are held at Harbor Park throughout the year, and there’s a walking path along the water. The Megunticook Falls, created by Montgomery Dam, is the showpiece of the park and a popular photo for people and pets.
Barrett’s Cove Beach
This beach is on the freshwater of Megunticook Lake, three miles north of Camden’s harbor. This is another dog-friendly (seasonally) water access point that’s sheltered away from the main highway and offers grassy areas with a small beach leading to the water. The walk into the water is shallow, and the waters are calm.
