Aroostook State Park
Maine’s first state park, Aroostook (87 State Park Road, Presque Isle; 207-768-8341) , was established in 1939 when residents of Presque Isle gifted 100 acres of land to the state. Today, the park encompasses almost 800 acres of forested, mountainous wilderness that’s perfect for camping, hiking, bird watching, canoeing and swimming in summer, and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping and snowmobiling during the colder months. The park contains the twin peaks of Quaggy Jo Mountain and scenic Echo Lake. Its campground, which is open year-round, has 30 tent and RV sites, showers and a kitchen shelter. Pets are welcome. Entrance fees start at $2 for adult residents, $3 for non-residents and $1 for seniors and children.
